I was born and raised in Canada's most easterly province, Newfoundland and Labrador and since a very early age, I've always had a passion for the outdoors. Coming from a family of eleven children with ten sisters and in my generation, we didn't have a whole lot to entertain ourselves with, which is probably one of the reasons I initially became obsessed with outdoor pursuits. From fishing at a young age to using slingshots, then air rifles and now most types of larger caliber rifles and shotguns, hunting has become an integral part of my life. Having an understanding wife and family is a tremendous benefit when I'm pursuing my sport.
Twenty years ago, I saw a niche that needed to be filled in Newfoundland and Labrador so I created an outdoor hunting and fishing magazine titled Newfoundland Sportsman. From those humble beginnings, the magazine foray lead into the creation of the Newfoundland Sportsman Show in 2004, of which I am host.
Being from Newfoundland and Labrador, we're very fortunate to be blessed with a large landmass, sparsely populated with people and with large concentrations of various types of big and small game, and waterfowl both inland and on the Atlantic Ocean. During open season, I am constantly travelling to numerous hotspots, hunting and filming episodes for the upcoming season. Many individuals say I have the dream job doing something that I really love to do for a living. It's difficult to argue that point.
I've learned the hard way over the years that inadequate or poorly made equipment can be detrimental to a successful hunt. You don't always get that second chance. When filming hunting programs for television, using the best equipment is extremely important to ensure that my hunt is successful. That's why I've come to depend on Vortex. And that's why I'm proud to be associated with Vortex as part of their Vortex Pro Staff team!
